What are Trojan Horses?
Trojan horses are the most destructive and dangerous species of computer viruses. Most of them are loaded at Windows Startup and are constantly in the memory of your PC. A Trojan horse is a program that does something the programmer intended, but that the user would not approve of if he knew about it. After a user installs it on their machine, the attacker can then access the user's machine remotely, via the Internet typically, and either take control of the machine or simply snoop around on it.

Entries with a
rosy

What is a Windows Service?
A Windows Service is a system program that performs specific functions without the requirement of user intervention. It can be configured to start when the operating system is booted (Startup Type = Automatic) and run in the background. it can also be configured to be started on demand when required (Startup Type = Manual). Many services are DLL (Dynamic Link Libraries) files which are loaded into memory by the svchost.exe application.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sort the programs so checked programs are at top and unchecked programs are at bottom of list?
Locale the arrow symbol in the caption of one of the columns. Click on it, until it disappears. After a reload unchecked programs will be at the bottom.
How can I use StartEd with Windows NT/2000/XP?
You need to login as the Administrator in order to use StartEd.
With Windows Vista and Windows 7 StartEd can also run in User Mode and will be elevated to the admin level.
How do I use the Start Methods?
Sometimes you may require a program to load up before Windows Explorer or the desktop appears .e.g. An Anti-Virus
program or a Server program. In such a case you need to select the Start Method as Local Machine Run Services.
I see a file listed under Local Machine Run and Local Machine
Run Services. Can I safely delete one of the entries?
No. These entries carry out different functions and must not be deleted.
e.g.: A virus checking program like McAfee would need to have one entry in the Local Machine Run section and Local Machine Run Services section in order to function properly.
